The journey behind every bottle of Fsforo Mezcal begins in a small town a slow 90-minute drive outside of Puebla, Mexico. At over 4,500 feet above sea level, this area of Mexico is characterized by rolling hills, beautiful mountain-top mesas, and strong cultural roots.The bottles of Fsforo that we produce today are the product of hand-picked agave plants that have been maturing for as long as 15 years. The Tobal plant (Agave Potatorum), often referred to as the king of agaves due to its rarity in the wild, produces beautiful mezcals with a light, sweet flavor profile often underpinned by complex floral notes.We take pride in being the ‘House of Tobal,’ offering a meticulously crafted selection of artesanal mezcals. Fsforo Mezcal produces artesanal mezcal from the Tobal agave in the heart of Puebla. Female founded and led on both sides of the border by Lisa Detwiler and Mariana Hernndez, Fsfofo Mezcal has quickly become the most awarded Tobal mezcal brand in the market. With production lead by fourth-generation master-mezcalero Aarn Alva Snchez, Marianas husband, we currently offer three carefully crafted mezcal expressions: Ensamble, Tobal Joven, and our Tobal Penca. Our Ensamble is made from a unique blend of Tobal agave and the heirloom agave varietal, Espadilla, making it perfect for elevated cocktailing. Our Tobal mezcal captivates with pronounced aromas of ripe fruit, bell pepper, and smoldering campfire, leading to a lively palate of cooked agave and caramelized pineapple, culminating in a subtle, smoky-smooth finish. Meanwhile, our one-of-a-kind Tobal Penca offers a brilliant amber hue, revealing layers of complexity with notes of young leather, caramel, and spices, followed by an explosion of floral flavors and toasted nuts, all enveloped in mellow smoky undertones.
