Imperial is one of the great wines of Spain. A classic from La Rioja, it was born in the twenties. The Imperial brewing only occurs when exceptional vintages are produced.
The grapes destined for Imperial come from their own vineyards in Villalba, Briones and Torremontalvo. In Villalba, the small farms Remedio and Encinas, located between 550 and 650 m of altitude, very close to the Sierra de Toloo and with a climate of Atlantic and continental influence. They are farms of 12 hectares within the 42 that CVNE owns in this municipality.
In Torremontalvo, our vineyards of San Quilez and Pico de Aguila located at an altitude of 450m and a somewhat more moderate climate than the Villalba plots. They are about 30 hectares of the total of 70 that CVNE owns.
Next door in Briones, Imperial is selected on 10 hectares of property (house vineyard). All these vineyards are older than 40 years, the majority variety is Tempranillo, although intermixed we find strains of other Rioja varieties such as Garnacha and Graciano, they are calcareous clay soils, poor in organic matter and low production, mostly oriented to south and with glass pruning.
